Xmas 2014 - Copper/White/Silver

This years theme is copper/white/silver.

I've carried this theme through to the wreath also...

This year I stitched and ruched some soft ivory silk scraps and white organza and then over laid it with some copper tinged berries garland. The short, battery operated LED light string sits very easily among the wired garland twigs.

The mantle holds small vignettes of copper, silver, vintage amber bottles and old assorted books in reds.

A beautiful hand made ceramic plate by Marley & Lockyer and some short strings of stars to light the night.

Simple white gift wrap and white raffia ribbon.
I stamped the white tags with embossing medium and powdered, mixing clear embossing powder with Ranger Perfect Pearl powder (called "perfect copper" naturally!) and used a heat gun.

I followed that through with the Christmas Cards using a pearly card stock that I had on hand.

We've polished and dusted, the crystal is throwing prisms and the silver and copper are throwing light everywhere.

Special pieces...

A special time.
Welcoming the new grandbaby to our traditions and remembering those we have lost this year.

It's hard losing those we love but to lose someone in conflict or at someone else's hand is heart breaking. My thoughts are for the families of those taken in tragic circumstances recently and my prayers are for peace.
Religion isn't violent, it's the violent and disturbed people who kill.
Peace be with you.

Christmas Is Creeping In

It starts with the tree...

That is one of the poodles, Lucille, AKA Lucy.

Christmas is one of my follies and though not to everyone's style, I like to change every year by combining different colours and feels.
I have been collecting ornaments over many years now and mostly after Christmas when they are heavily reduced in price. Be prepared and also buy clear storage tubs that stack so you can store ornaments in colour groups. I keep my Christmas in an old wardrobe in the garage.
Inexpensive balls can be spray painted and glitterised to suit many theme changes. My favourite go-to in the automotive paint shop. I can give my exact colour requirement to them and they mix it and place it in a pressure pack. Voila, custom spray can.

I have carried through the colours from the last dresser and china change.

Colour Test

My friend Nancy, sock mentor and knitter extraordinaire over at Wyoming Breezes found a colour test that was really fun and interesting.
It tests hue differentiation and gives a score. You can also see how your score relates to others of same gender and age type.
It involves dropping and dragging colour tiles into order and you can take it here
I got 27 and struggled with the pinkish/purple hues the most. As a crafter and knitter etc I thought I was pretty good with colour but I have really noticed a change in my eye sight and perception as I have aged over 40. It would be fascinating to do this test every 5yrs and see how this progresses wouldn't it.

Pop over to Nancy's and read some of the results in her comments.

It would be really fun if you want to post your score and comment here too....

Indigo

Linking in again with Evi at Sister Sun.
This weeks colour is "Indigo" and we have trawled the photo archives, reviving some long lost memories.
I have really struggled to find indigo but I simply must share with you what comes to my mind whenever I hear the word indigo....
